The Griotz would like to wish everyone a Happy Diwali! For those who are not familiar, Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights and signifies the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali originates from India but it is celebrated all over the world. It’s a time of celebration and prayer for a prosperous new year to come.
Diwali is celebrated over 5 days. Day 1 is when people clean their homes (donating old items to the less fortunate), decorating inside and out, and lighting oil lamps to light up the night sky. Day 2 and 3 is when religious rituals are performed to ward off evil and bring good fortune to your family. Day 4 is the Diwali celebration filled with Lights, Rangoli (beautiful art that is hand drawn with colored powders), fireworks, music, dance and regional delicacies prepared for this time of year. The last day is is known as Bhai Dooj which is a celebration between brothers and sisters to appreciate the blessing of having siblings.
